Blue Circle® Premium Clay: Super Fine Kaolin Clay for Versatile Applications
Features and Benefits:
- Superior Quality: Boral Cement’s most refined clay product, known for its high plasticity, dry strength, and refractory properties.
- Plasticiser for Mortars: Enhances the workability of building mortars.
- General Purpose Filler: Serves as a versatile filler for various applications.
- Refractory Formulations: An essential ingredient in creating high-temperature-resistant materials.
Application/Use:
- Color Variability: As a naturally occurring material, the color of the clay can vary. It’s important to check the clay’s color before use in color-sensitive applications. Note that Boral does not consider claims for color variation once the clay has been used.
- Testing and Compliance: Conduct trials on mix designs to ensure they meet relevant Australian Standards, particularly AS 3700 – 1998 for masonry structures. This standard provides guidelines for mortar mix design, including performance and testing requirements.
- Performance Considerations: Excessive use of clay and fine silt can negatively affect mortar performance, leading to issues with bond strength, flexural and compressive strengths, shrinkage, and durability. The same caution applies to naturally occurring sands.
- Not a Lime Substitute: Clay should not replace lime in mix designs.
- Usage Tip: Use clay sparingly to achieve the desired workability and finish. Boral does not specify mix designs due to the variation in sand types and their effects on final product performance.
In all cases, trial mixes are essential to ensure that the final product meets the desired performance characteristics.
